Biking Park Density: Portland Oregon

Through the use of spatial data, this map analyzes at the City of Portland’s bike infrastructure and Biketown stations. The goal is to examine the equity in how these resources are distributed throughout the city.  It has been found that bike stations should be no more than 1,000 ft. apart in the area covered, or about a 5-min walk.  A way to look at this is to determine how many stations are within each square mile (bike station density).  The fewer bike stations and the further apart they are, the less convenient it is for potential riders.  Typically, we find that these resources are not equally represented across the city, with higher-income neighborhoods at an advantage.
